Feel a bit of a failure.

Visible to anyone in the world

I thought I could manage two 30 credit modules and assumed it would be a similar workload to one 60 credit. It really wasn’t!  As a result, I have deferred K260 until next year and am just doing D240 now. It was the sensible thing to do but I still feel a bit crappy about it.

I have mixed thoughts about K260 and will not look forward to restarting it with as much eagerness as when beginning my other modules.  Previous modules always seemed well rounded with both sides of an argument represented.  K260’s first block seems primarily concerned with saying how awful it is to die in a care home and that only hospices provide good care.  I don’t know if the author just happened to spend time in the world’s worst care home – but as someone who has worked in palliative care within care homes for a long time – I feel quite offended with the way things are written. Study before deferral was frequently interrupted by me yelling at the material.

In other news.  Week 22 of my diet saw me hitting the halfway point and achieving 50 lbs loss. Now the trickier 50lb left to lose.  Today also marks my first full month of being vegan.  On the eating side, it hasn’t been too bad.  Apart from mourning cheese, the only real difficulty has been learning the peculiar things that manufacturers smuggle animal products in to.  You can’t take anything as being ‘common sense’.  Fish guts in orange squash for example or beaver anal secretions in tobacco!   The changing over to vegan and cruelty free cleaning supplies has been successful.  Beauty/perfume/skin care products have been mostly successful with the exception of shampoo and lip balm.  I have some on order though - so will hopefully find some good replacements soon.
