Mindfulness

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by John Jamieson, Thursday, 28 May 2015, 10:32

Mindfulness appears to have found its way into many psychological therapies over the last decade or so. I think they are called 'third wave' therapies or something like that. It is recommended that therapists using mindfulness should participate themselves. Since I've just pulled a hamstring muscle due to carelessness, maybe I need to go about my live in a more 'mindful' manner and be less driven by the next item on my 'to do' list.

From eLATE(D) to TM OU Live Advanced

Visible to anyone in the world

Having completed (and enjoyed) the module for OU staff called eLATE(D), which stands for electronic Learning And Teaching Enhancements (for the social sciences), I have now registered for TM OU Live Advanced. As a consequence of these professional development modules, maybe students will get a better deal from me! I hope so anyway.smile

Playing around with blogs

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by John Jamieson, Saturday, 23 May 2015, 10:26

The more I play around with blogs the more comfortable I get with them, especially my own one.

It seems to me that the OU gold-standard as an IT tool is the group forum for each module. Other tools like blogs really have to demonstrate something extra / better if they are going to be used.

Where posts actually appear?

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by John Jamieson, Saturday, 23 May 2015, 10:26

I can't yet quite work out where posts actually appear. For example, Simon has commented on something I'd written about blogs and I want to respond to his comment but not sure where to do that. Maybe I can just do it here!

Hi Simon, I found your graffiti quote interesting. It reminded me of one I saw myself which said something like "God is dead", signed 'Nietsche'. Underneath it someone had drawn a streak of lightning and had written: "Nietsche is dead", signed 'God'.

Viva

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by John Jamieson, Saturday, 23 May 2015, 10:25

On the 18th March 2015, I experienced my first ever viva, and probably my last! Spent over an hour with an external and internal examiner at Newcastle University who had been examining my thesis called "A 'critical' insider's story of self-harm".

They eventually asked me to leave them alone and to return in about half an hour. I was eventually congratulated and told that I had passed with minor amendments that had to be completed within a month.

These amendments have now been made and accepted and I've been awarded the DEdPsy (Doctorate in Educational Psychology).

I wonder if I would have found the whole thing as pleasant if I had failed?smile

Starting to learn about blogs

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by John Jamieson, Wednesday, 20 May 2015, 21:04

In my attempts to learn about blogs, I have produced a kind of brief CV profile in the 'view profile' section of this blog. It consists of the paragraph which I include in reports which I produce for Court. Hopefully it gives a reasonably accurate impression of my working life at least - past and present.

I have now edited the profile and added my business postal address and e-mail address.
