Foundation Degree (part-time)

Collapse post

Hi there.  I've just created an account with the OU and have joined the forum.  Glad to be onboard!  I have almost completed a Level 5 Diploma in a Sales and Marketing course, through the UK Professional Development Academy.  On researching the significance of Level 5 courses prior to commencing it, I read that it is the equivalent of a foundation degree, would this be correct?  If so, would there be any real point in sitting an actual foundation degree?  Just looking some guidance as to what my next step could be?

Many thanks.

Hi Dawn and welcome to the forum

Which of our foundation degrees are you interested in?  Is there a particular reason why you wanted to do a foundation degree rather than a full degree?

A foundation degree is at OU levels 1 and 2 which are equivalent to Levels 4 and 5 on the National Qualifications Framework for England (NQF).  Whether you need to do another qualification at the same level will depend upon whether you need the foundation degree to move into a particular career.  It’s always a good idea to seek impartial careers advice and you can get this free from the National Careers Service at:

https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/

Depending upon what you need to study for your career plans you may be able to apply to transfer the credits from your current study (when completed) towards an Open University degree.  We call this credit transfer.  Each qualification has different rules as to how many credits can be transferred, whether the prior study can be in any subject or if it has to be in the same or a related area.  Information about credit transfer is on our website here:

I hope this helps.  Do come back to us if needed.
