Second Degree

Second Degree

I am interested in studying Forensic Psychology and applying for the part-time tuition fee loan, luckily it's part of the ELQ list for those which are eligible for second degree loans!

Would I be able to study it full-time and still get a second degree loan?

Also, am I able to start in October? I had quite a few issues going on with all this coronavirus stuff happening, and student finance seems to think I can still apply for October finance!

Thanks,

Elliot

Hi Elliot and thanks for getting in touch.

Yes you can apply for the second degree funding from Student Finance England whether you study at part-time (60 credits) or full-time (120 credits) intensity and the BSc (Honours) Forensic Psychology is one of the degrees available for this.  Please note that you can only apply for funding for the module fees - there is no maintenance loan available for OU study.

Registration for October closed on the 11th September so the next start will be February 2021 and registration is open until the 14th January though we recommend applying as soon as you can.  One important thing to note is that when students start their studies in February if you do 120 credits (which is full time intensity) you would then have to wait a year to start your Stage 2 studies.  This is because the Government puts a cap on how much we can charge students in a 12 month period and the Stage 2 modules only start every October.  If you don’t want a gap in your studies you can do DD102 in February 2021 then DE100 in October 2021.  You can then move to full time intensity by doing all of Stage 2 in October 2022.

I hope this helps but do come back to us if there is anything else you would like to ask.

I’d also like to know, is Earth Sciences part of the exemption? And since I’ve already done a science degree, would I be able to one or two of the modules, or just hand in the TMAs?
