I am sorry to hear that you have been out of work for almost a year now.

You may also be interested in checking out FutureLearn, which is a website which provides free courses to study, similar to The Open University's OpenLearn. Modules can last between 2 - 8 weeks in length and can be used as a preparatory step before undertaking OU study. Most modules allow students to obtain a 'Statement of Participation' or 'Certificate of Achievement':
