Hi I am 19 and finding new things to do in life, I’ve always been interested in psychology and counselling sort of thing, and I finally want to actually go ahead and do it. But I just want more information about how it all works.
Hi Vanesa
Thanks for your message and it’s great to hear you’re interested in study.
We offer study by distance learning which means you study online from home using a mixture of online materials, books and other resources. You'll need a computer but you can also access course materials on your smartphone or tablet with the OU Anywhere app.
Most of our students study part-time which requires around 16-18 hours study time per week and you fit your study around your other commitments. You will find lots of useful information about how study with us works here:
https://www.open.ac.uk/courses/what-is-distance-learning
We have a range of courses in the Psychology and Counselling area ranging from certificates to degrees. You can see them all here:
https://www.open.ac.uk/courses/psychology
If you are interested in study for your career and live in England you can seek free impartial careers advice from the National Careers service and their website is at:
https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/
They will go through your interests, skills and any previous study so you can see what type of qualification and subject would be suitable. If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland you can access the relevant careers service at the foot of the following page:
https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/about-us
There is some also preliminary careers information available on our website at:
https://www.open.ac.uk/courses/careers
The fees and funding options you are eligible for depend upon what you want to study, where you live and your personal circumstances. You can see your options here:

When you have had careers advice (if needed) and looked at the information via the links above if you call our Student Recruitment team they’ll be pleased to help. The number is 0300 303 5303 and lines are open Monday to Friday 8am – 5.30pm. Most courses start in February and registration is open until the 12th January 2023.
