Best laptop

Believe it or not I've never owned a laptop before and now that I need to get one for OU study I'd appreciate others' thoughts on the functionality I'll need and the best model around now.

Hi David

Thanks for your message.

It's great to hear you'll be studying with us.

You’ll need broadband internet access and a desktop or laptop computer with an up-to-date version of Windows (10 or 11), or macOS (11 'Big Sur' or higher). Any additional software will be provided or is generally freely available. To join in spoken conversations in tutorials, we recommend a wired headset (headphones/earphones with a built-in microphone). Our module websites comply with web standards, and any modern browser is suitable for most activities. Our OU Study mobile app will operate on all current, supported versions of Android and iOS but it’s not available on Kindle.

You're welcome to call our Student Recruitment team and they will put you in touch with the Computing Helpdesk where the advisers can help you choose the right computer. The telephone number for Student Recruitment is 0300 303 5303 and lines are open Monday to Friday 8am - 5.30pm.

I hope this helps.
