New to OU

Hi, I'm new here and want to change my career. Spent the last 25yrs in catering and hospitality and ready to re train and try something new. I'd like to enter an office environment, but I'm not confident with my computer abilities. However I'm great with people and I learn fairly quickly. What would be a good course for me to take to expand my knowledge and make me feel at ease in an office environment? Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Lisa.

Hello Lisa

Thanks for your message and it’s great to hear you are interested in study and changing your career.

If you live in England the National Careers Service will be happy to advise you about suitable courses and training to prepare for office work.  You can access this free impartial service via the website at:

https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/

They will go through your interests, current skills and any previous study you may have then suggest suitable courses.

If you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland you can access the relevant careers service at the foot of the following page:

https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/about-us

As we don’t offer the type of IT or office based courses you’re looking for we may not be the best course provider to study with.  However, if after having advice from the National Careers Service, you think one of our courses may be suitable or of interest you are very welcome to call our Student Recruitment team and they’ll be pleased to help. The number is 0300 303 5303 and lines are open Monday to Friday 8am – 5.30pm. You can see our courses here:

I hope this helps.
