SQE1 Practice Certificate

Good afternoon,

I am a current University of Aberdeen MA Legal Studies and Politics graduate.

I am interested in becoming a solicitor in England and I would like to take your SQE1 course.

As my course was an MA rather than an LLB, I was wondering if I would still be considered for this course?

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. To study the Professional Certificate in Legal Practice: SQE1, you need to have completed a bachelors degree (ordinary or honours) that is based on English and Welsh law which includes the seven foundations of legal knowledge. Your degree must have been awarded by a UK Higher Education Institution (HEI) or other recognised degree awarding body, or an equivalent qualification from an overseas HEI. Unfortunately, if your bachelors degree is not in this field we would be unable to grant entry.

The next starting date for most modules will be in October. Registration for courses starting in October will open mid/late March and close early September. Depending on your bachelors degree we might be able to consider credit transfer to one of our other qualifications https://credit-transfer.open.ac.uk/ Should you have any further queries please don't hesitate to call us on 0300 303 5303 (Monday to Friday: 08:00 – 17:30) or send us an email at general-enquiries@open.ac.uk. Best wishes!
