A blog? Hmmmm.... not what i expected when i logged into my Open university student home page for the first time. But at the grand age of 35 i didn't expect to be calling myself a student either so who knows, tomorrow i might wake up with wings (shrug).
So how did i get here? Well I'm Clare a 35 year old mum of two. Proud owner of a darling (most days) daughter who has just entered that pivotal time in her life we call the teenage years, send help, gin and oodles of patience and then my little boy age 4 and diagnosed recently with Autism. Cue the need for a career change and why I'm now sat here contemplating my life choices with a bunch of strangers on the internet. Slightly pretentious as no one is ever going to read this pile of drivel.
Anyway, I have spent the last 4 years at home helping my gorgeous boy navigate a life that is too loud, too over populated and well just too everything. Life hasn't quite gone in the direction I planned after many years in hospitality management and securing my dream role as a wedding planner i thought life was bliss. However, hospitality mixed with kids and a little bit of autism spice doesn't quite work out the way you want it. So its on to new, bigger and (hopefully) better things.
I start my degree this coming October in primary education with goals of helping other parents wade through the depths of the SEN diagnosis in the early years. I have recently completed an NVQ 3 in Understanding SEN and NVQ 3 in Autism (so unnecessary, I have the child who needs the certificate but apparently employers like it) next adventure caps and capes. Can I do this? I hope so! Do I have the time? Nope probably not! But as they say, its all poops and giggles until somebody giggles and poops. Unfortunately that's a relatively frequent occurrence in this household but i promise not from me!
