Camping on the Gold Coast of Australia

I've had to defer to January

The place I work for is being sold to developers.

I work at a place called the RockBarn and it's used by a charity called The 7C's Foundation, They want to tear down the RockBarn to put up some luxury flats. We're situated in the middle of town and the RockBarn has become a thriving community center for music.

As a consequence of planning permission being submitted for the flats, there has been a lot of activity within the community trying to stop the progress of the developers. I myself have been on the radio and television about the issue and attended several meetings.

All the new activity, which has been an addition to my normal workload, has meant that I have found it very difficult to find time tp study. This is unlikely to change in the near future. I have therefore asked to be allowed stop the current access course I am doing and register to restart the same course again in February. This permission has been granted to me.

If you would like to help #savetherockbarn please get in contact.

Reejai to you all,

Aldie

Access Module started Yesterday

Visible to anyone in the world

Today I finished doing an OpenLearn course on Starting with Psychology and I started doing English: Skills for Learning. I thought it would help with me do better on the Access Module.

I've got a Tutorial booked for Monday (my birthday), at 2pm and I'm looking forward to that.

My water-only fast only lasted a week so I'll probably start another one some time next week. I hope that people understand that this is an experiment I'm doing in the hope of further understanding the human mind, particularly my own. Although I am currently overweight, I'm not fasting to lose weight. Fortunately one of the advantages of only drinking water is that weight loss is unavoidable!

I am doing these fasts as a continuation of an experiment I've been conducting since Christmas 2016. I'm researching if it's possible to do something that absolutely everyone I know tells me is not possible and that they, or anyone else would find very difficult. One of the primary conditions of this water-only experiment is that it must be 'effortless'. There should be no battle. If I wish to eat, I eat. Otherwise the fast continues. Last year, the longest effortless fast was for 28 days and this year (so far) I've done 7 days.

Back to Study.

Concerning my study, this is a very new area for me. I have never done any higher education and when I last studied in school or when I was studying to pass my Standard One Exam's at the Police Training School in Hong Kong, the results were pretty disastrous. I have never found studying attractive ... till now.

My Module officially starts today and I will be posting my progress, or lack of, here in this blog. Good luck to anyone else who is also doing the Access Module and do say hello if you're swinging by.

Reejai!

16 Days to Go

Visible to anyone in the world

Sixteen Days To Go
till the access course begins.

I'm also fasting at the moment. This is part of the ongoing research and experimentation that I've been doing over the years. I stopped eating on Sunday and have been only drinking water since then. We're coming to the end of Thursday (it's gone 8pm) so I guess that this amounts to 4 days without food.

Concerning my activities within the OU, I've joined a couple of groups in Facebook and WhatsApp and the forum for Y032 Feb 3rd starters. I've been receiving loads of messages on my phone.

I know I'm old but a lot of the information and how to access it is not obvious at all. There is so much information and so many directions you can go in that it seems very easy to get lost. Anyway, I do have the time to explore a bit and picking up little bits of information from the forum and social media groups helps.

Reejai for now.

Aldie

PS - for those that are interested I've lost 12 pounds since Monday.

Greetings and Reejai

Reejai to you and welcome to my first blog post.

My name is Aldie and I am 58 years old (59 in February).

I am starting the Access Module Y032 on February the 3rd, 2 days before my birthday. The module is headed People, Work and Society. It was recommended that I do this module as I haven't been involved in academic studies since doing my A Levels back when I was a teenager. In other words, it' been a very long time. In addition ... I was a pretty poor academic. I found it very difficult to study or even focus in class. I was never motivated to do any work at all (especially homework and revision). This access module should serve a good indicator as to whether or not I now have what it takes to 'go back to school'.

My aim is to follow the Access Module with Q07 BSc (Honours) Psychology.

In 1984 I did a water only fast for 28 days and my life changed dramatically. My goal since has been to try and leave a ding in the universe by discovering how to help eliminate unnecessary human suffering.

As an amateur, I have been examining human nature and behaviour for over 30 years and think that I have discovered some extremely interesting things. 2018 seems like a good time for me to get some formal education on the subject and to examine my hypotheses with others that are more educated in the field.

So here I am.

Please communicate with me if you wish. My blog settings allow comments from anyone and everywhere, and anyone can have access to my blog.

Reejai!*

*Reejai definition - when used as a salutation, Reejai simply means 'I wish you happiness'. In particular, a happiness based in reality and not derived from delusion or artificial stimulants.
