Busy, busy, busy !

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday, 25 Sep 2023, 13:49

Finally finished parts 1, 2 and 3 of the TMA 01 of E302. All I have to do now is to tidy and polish them up , then to type them on the computer, easier said than done!

Found it all very interesting,  because I really  like Poetry, so it was a great discovery, to find out all about the different literary devices, used in analysing  poetry.

Thing is, I am very busy at the moment, and I will also be busy again  next week,  with lots of appointments and other family commitments, which will keep me occupied!

I will have to just try to squeeze some studying time in,  somehow,  whenever I get the chance. Anyway hubby's now  been jabbed with Covid booster today,  but I will have to wait a bit longer for mine, even though I am 50 + so I don't know when.

I decided that I now prefer studying in the mornings,  because I feel fresher and have much more energy and strength. After breakfast and medication times,  my son can entertain himself for a couple of hours.

This afternoon when I finished studying,  I went off for a walk to the far end of the village. I bought some organic veges. Kale, carrots, courgettes,  onions, leeks, broccoli spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms.

I came home and made a family favourite, some chinese pancakes,  filled with rice and soy sauce, ginger and wasabi. I made  batons with some of the veges I bought today. and stir-fried in the Wok. A Soy sauce to dip them in.

I put some  quorn chicken and veggie sausage inside pancakes and make them very savoury. Desert was poached pears in red wine, vanilla, sugar and a sweet berry sauce (all from the garden) with fresh  cream. Very tasty! I ate well as I was so hungry,  after the brisk walk in the cold fresh air!

Feeling revived ! so I am now going to plod on and do some more studying!  So it's Onwards and upwards as they say!

What about a Green New Deal?

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Thursday, 18 Nov 2021, 22:40

                         ⚡
                     🌏

Why doesn't the government
erect more wind turbines, insulate more homes, replace old gas boilers and subsidise electric cars?
This will stimulate the economy, provide jobs and COMBAT  CLIMATE CHANGE!
The Green 'New Deal' seems to make a lot of sense! So why not do it?

I will tell you why not, because this government are capitalists, and they will only produce for profit, so this is what will happen. Nothing much!
Instead many will go hungry, fall into poverty, become homeless or have precarious housing and precarious jobs. It could happen to any of us!  All because of Climate change many people are becoming Climate casualties around the world.

A new system is needed,  whereby production is for use,  not for profit. This can only be done when productive resources,  stop being owned by the big capitalist corporations (making the rich even richer)  instead become common property,  under the democratic social control of everyone in society.   A collaboration to work and use the resources of the planet 'properly' and with 'care' to secure a decent life for everyone.

Time is running out for the planet read Revelation in the Bible!  ⌛

Part 3 tma 01

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021, 19:01

Doing part three of TMA 01 English language and creativity. This part seems a bit difficult but  hopefully it will all  come together.

Looking back on part 2,   I found the rewrite into another genre to be a lot of fun! I actually ended up with a quite few different versions from the same source material. But which one to submit?

I have to finish this 3rd part now, this is a reflective piece (700 words)  and  is writing about what I have learned,  from the creative writing process,  of rewriting into another genre. When all three parts are finished I will tidy them up and then type them onto the computer. Everything is going according to plan as they say!

Life is a gift

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 13 Nov 2021, 13:32

        Life =    🎁

“In Him was life; and the life was the light of men”. Those have faith through Him will have eternal life. This “life” is a gift Jesus brought from God into a dying world. In Johns gospel, “darkness is present in the absence of light; the absence of eternal life,”

What shall we do with this gift?

Darkness and light

Walking in darkness means committing acts of sin, and  rejecting Gods message of salvation.

Back to the drawing board!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 13 Aug 2022, 13:57

I have been taking a good  look at what I have written over the past week in preparation for TMA01.

At the time of writing it,  it had all made perfect sense, and I felt quite upbeat  like I had given it my best shot. I thought that I had actually done something very  original and creative.

However, now when I look at it over again,  and hold it up to scrutiny against the question, looking at it from the question point of view,  then from what a rewrite should look like, ie. very similar to the original but perhaps only slightly different, then it doesn't seem to be  exactly right somehow. I seem to have gone off on a tangent!  Looks like I will have to start again!

So, I will have to rewrite my rewrite out again and do another rewrite of my rewrite!

Making notes for part 2 of TMA01

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021, 19:04

Well, I feel like I have made some progress today!
After researching the genre, into which I will be endeavouring to make my rewrite, I was able to keep a record of all the words and phrases, that I will be using for the rewrite, into the new genre.
I then made a list of the all the literary devices,  that will be appropriate for this task.

Remembering also about the rhetorical devices,  that I had learnt at stage two, which were pathos, ethos and logos, these will be very useful for this task . Of course,  not forgetting the new skills that I have just learned about creative language,  and stylistic analysis, these will be  great tools for this particular part of the assignment.

The word count for the task is 300,  so that's not too long, but I have to make every word count. Lots of reading about literary devices, in module book one and in the stylistics book. Finding it very interesting especially learning about translation techniques too.

Hopefully,  I am going out this  Friday (or next) to the city by bus, then Saturday I will be having the flu jab,  as I usually do at this time of year. No news of the Covid booster jab yet, I expect it will probably be next month. I will try to persuade my son to come out with me for a little walk at the weekend to get a bit of  exercise and fresh air.

A velvety red rose

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 21 Oct 2023, 21:42

A red rose

The Rose

The lily has a smooth stalk
Will never hurt your hand
But the rose upon her briar
Is lady of the land

When with moss and honey
She tips her bending briar
And half unfolds her glowing heart
There's sweetness in an apple tree
And profit in the corn
But lady of all beauty
Is a rose upon a thorn

When with moss and honey
She tips her bending briar
And half unfolds her glowing heart
She sets the world on fire

When with moss and honey
She tips her bending briar
And half unfolds her glowing heart
She sets the world on fire

A Bike ride on a country lane- in summer🚵‍♀️

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday, 26 Aug 2023, 21:48

                🌄 🚵‍♀️
Cycling down the leafy lanes
Frees me from my chords and chains
As on  my bike I like to go
Where the pace is sweet and slow
Up the hills and down the vales
I feel the wind rise in my sails

The wind in my hair,
The sun on my back
No clouds in the sky
By trail and by track

The road ahead is now completely clear
Not much traffic drives down here
Just the tractors and the harvesters too
But apart fom that,  the cars are few.

 Hedgerows passing along the way

Where only Sheep and  rabbits play

Horses too will race along  with me

Galloping, galloping ,  as faster we fly

But there we must part and say goodbye!

Sticking to the question!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021, 19:06

I have looked at the TMA 01 question and I find the task quite difficult,  because it is in three parts. The first part, the analysis I have managed to do that ok,  but it's with the other two parts that I am now struggling. This will require a tremendous effort,  to rewrite this in another genre, and then to write a reflective essay on how I have achieved that.

I have never done anything quite like this ever before.
The word count is 1000 for the first the analysis, then 300 for the rewrite into another genre, then 700 word for the reflection. It is not going to be easy to achieve, but I will read the guidance instructions, that comes with the TMA question and stick to the question. The question, the whole question and nothing but the question!

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday, 27 Oct 2021, 15:58

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?-

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

The Lord is our shepherd

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday, 1 Nov 2021, 22:06

The Lord is my shepherd,

I shall not want.

He makes me in lie down in  green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul and leads me in paths of righteousness for his name sake.

Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

Your rod and staff shall comfort me.

You have prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies,

You anoint my head with oil and my cup overflows.

Yes, surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
