Une Promenade

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday 24 September 2023 at 18:45

Samedi matin et j'ai fais un petit tour de mon village.🏘
J'ai commencé par le parc et j'ai pris le chemin qui atteint les champs. II n'y a personne à l'entour. 🌄
Aujourd'hui tout le monde fait leurs emplettes. Il fait chaud et le printemps est enfin là. Mais les nuits sont encore très froides. Et je retourné à ma maison tout suite.

Power of prayer

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Thursday 1 July 2021 at 13:14

The power of prayer

        🙏

Found this helpful !

"Don't worry about anything....pray about everything"

Philipians 4v6    (TLB)

Take it to the Lord in prayer.

At that point train your mind not to worry...Don't try to find answers straight away.

You have solved the problem by giving it to God, now wait for his leading. He will direct your thoughts to the next step you should take. If there is nothing he leads you to do - then do nothing more. He will take it from there.

"Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find"

Matthew 7v 7

From the Bible.

An afternoon walk

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday 28 June 2021 at 09:29

This morning, which was very cold but sunny, passed in much the same way as always. Housework followed by clothes washing. I then studied for about an hour before starting the lunch.

This afternoon ventured out to the supermarket this is only about 5 minutes away to the end of our road and over the main high street that runs through our village.

It was surprisingly quiet inside the supermarket, and as the shopping was not too heavy,  I decided to ta ke a bit of exercise. I took the road leading  into the village and walked around the market place. Most shops were still closed here appart from newsagents, that sells some food supplies it is also a post office , the greengrocers, the chemists and the fish and chip shop.

I sat for a few moments on the bench in the market square to watch the circulation of traffic and people. It was peaceful with only the occaisonal car passing this will change in the next couple of weeks. After lockdown is lifted.

My next door neighbour walked by on her way to greengrocers she waved and I waved back. She is a nice quiet neighbour hardly ever makes any noise. She is always very friendly.

I carry on walking around the square then I take the back road passing the co-op to the footpath that leads onto the nearby fields. There are some lovely white woolly sheep there in the field gently grazin, munching on grass they stop and lift their heads as I pass by them, they then they carry on grazing.

I take a good look around at these two fields,  because they will very soon be gone. A building company will soon be moving in here to build a new estate, the sign posts are already up. I wonder what will happen to the sheep and the hedges, the beautiful old trees and the little stream on the far side

I hope they will keep the lovely old trees,  perhaps they will be able to stay as they are a fair way off and they border the field. They are bound to build a pavement here on this side on the footpath close to the supermarket. People need houses and shops that's for sure and maybe it will be beneficial to the economy of the village,  or perhaps they will just take their cars and travel into the city to shop?

But of course for the residents,  it will mean that we will have to walk a further 10-15 minutes to reach the nearby countryside. I will miss the wild life around here. I shrug my shoulders everything changes!  After a few minutes, I turn round and quickly make my way home again back to the village.

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday 18 February 2023 at 00:44

Tandis qui'ils parlaient de la sorte, lui -même se présenta au milieu d'eux, et leur dit;
"La paix soit avec
vous! "

Saisis de frayeur et d' épouvante, ils croyaient voir un esprit.
Mais il leur dit; Pourquoi êtes- vous troublés, et pourquoi pareilles pensées s'élèvent- elles dans vos coeurs? Voyez mes mains et mes pieds, C'est bien moi;

Alive !

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday 21 January 2024 at 19:39

After the Sabbath Mary Magdelene and the other Mary came to the tomb where there was an angel who said to them;

   ⚰ 🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️🌬🕊

"He is not here but has risen as he had said'

"Come and see the place where the Lord lay"  🛏

"Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the🕊 dead, 🕊and indeed he is going before you into Galilee. There you will see him."

So they went quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples the good  news. 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♀️

And as they were going to tell the disciples behold they met Jesus on the way.   🧍‍♂️

The. Revolutionary

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday 21 January 2024 at 19:41

Power to the people!      🤺

Jesus Christ was himself the first socialist revolutionary. He went against the authority of his day by upturning the tables of the money lenders.( Matthew 21 verses 14-17)
He was in fact saying "Down with the Capitalists you who want to rip us all off ! "
Those who want more and more. The greedy! The money grabbers! We have to stand up to them and say no! enough is enough!
They will not get away with it!
Our words must be heard. The people will speak.
Jesus overturned the tables of the money lenders in the temple because Jesus was for the people he loved people and was against those who were exploiting them. He never killed anyone or did violence to anyone but he was willing to sacrifice his own life by taking a great risk.

That is why it was very difficult for the authorities of the day to convict him at first because he hsd hurt no one, he did no wrong, was an innocent man, a good man, and he respected the lives of others. He was a just a peaceful protester but he was not afraid to show his anger against the injustice that he saw being done by the authorities.

All they could do was to turn the people against him which they cunningly did because they were evil !

The authorities gave back to the people Barabus in exchange for Jesus, he was also a rebel a bit of a robin hood character, a thief, a bit crooked, but less dangerous for the authorities to deal with. but he was not to everyones taste. He could not speak like Jesus and gather the crowds.

Those who followed Jesus including both men and women. Mary, Salome, Mary Magdalen, Veronica, Joanna, Mary Clopas and other women too. He treated as them equals as co-workers to men not as inferiors. Jesus respected women. They were his disciples too. He had many other followers by this time in the country including his twelve closest allies. He was gaining great popularity all the time.
Jesus was for the poor, the dispossessed, the sick, the lonely, the excluded, the down trodden.
Jesus did not like the rich life style of the elites who just take ! the hypocrites, greedy capitalists, hateful cruel people or those who are ruining this earth by their insatiable greed.(Revelation 11.18)

The Lord Says
" I will bring to ruin those who are ruining the earth" (from Revelation 11.18.) They are the ones responsible for global warming !

The polluters who spoil who take everything out yet put nothing back again to replenish the earth.
Those who easily consume everything relentlessly on a whim without a care for others they never hold back, they even rob from the poor!
Remember the seven deadly sins greed is one of them!
Jesus will break the evil doers, Not by physical violence but by the power of his words!
A powerful sword that shall come forth from his mouth. (Revelations 19v15) With this he will kill his enemies. We shall stand behind him on that great day!
Jesus loves the meek, the merciful, the kind and humble. The keepers, the carers, the healers, the sharers, the givers as well as those want peace, who want to do good and make the world a better place. (Sermon on the mount Matthew chapter 5)
Do the evil doers not hear the warning from God!
Plagues (Revelation 16) will come and the earth will wear out like a mouth eaten garment ( Isaiah 51 v 6))
But it doesn't have to be like that not on our watch!
Giving is better than receiving, but giving, the giving of yourself, your resources, gifts and talents. Share what you have with those who have not.
Do not love money more than people. Money is the root of all evil!
Jesus is just, for God is just. Jesus is like God the father because he knows him and he is like him. We can be like him too!
God knows what is in the heart of us his people. He knows we are capable of making a fairer
society with the help of Jesus based on sharing, caring and looking after one another this is a far better society. Let us practise now for that time when one day soon all men will be equal and live in peace together. For in that day surely the wolf will lie down with the lamb. (Isaiah 11v6)

Lovely weather - will it last I wonder?

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday 28 June 2021 at 09:07

The weather was beautiful this morning It was just like a warm sunny summers day ! 😎

Studied L222 for about 1 hour and 1/2and answered questions at the end of unitI got some right and some wrong! Will try again later. Looked outside at the garden.

My garden has flowers at last! daffodils, violets, blue flowers that look a bit like grapes (I forget the name of them?) Yellow 🌼🌾 Primroses and pretty little celendines. There are other things coming up but not sure what they are yet! 😏

We went for a nice long walk 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️around the park this morning it was lovely. Surprisingly it was fairly quiet, from there we walked along the little lane that leads out into the countryside.

I was tempted to go even further and take the track that leads through the fields to the next village, 🌲🏡this would have taken half an hour there and half an hour back so 1 hour altogether.

Unfortunately I couldn't go there today because I had to study 👩‍💻  L222 this afternoon so that was far too important. Never mind there will be other days. For the meal later we are having vegetarian wellington with salad and even ice cream! 🥗🥮

Spiritual Reflections 🌄

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Saturday 3 August 2024 at 21:04

God Heavenly Father, Help us to keep our eyes on you and not on the troubles and trials of this life. Amen

Jesus is the son of God, the sacrificial lamb who takes away our sins and the sins of the world. He took our sins upon himself, an act of great faith and love for all mankind.

'Happy are those called to his supper.'

For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him shall be saved.

On the night Dr Martin Luther King gave his final speech;

" I have been to the mountaintop I have looked over, and I have seen the promised land. I might not get there with you.... but I'm happy tonight, I am not worried about anything. I am not fearing any man. For Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. "

Martin Luther King, our Lord Jesus and saint paul knew what lay beyond death.  St Paul said
"I am already been poured out like a drink offering"

And yet "We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal"
(2 Corrinthians 4 v18)

Then as written in 2 Timothy4v8
"There is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord will award to me on that day."
So like St Paul and Martin Luther King Let us continue to run in the great race of faith towards the goal and let us keep our eyes on the Lord Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.

Remember death is not the end!

French A.L.E

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday 23 June 2021 at 09:30

The ale experience. This replaces the residential school which is usually held in Vernon in France but because of covid 19 restrictions cannot take place. Instead the town of Aix-en -Provence will be the focus of the alternative learning experience study.

This year there was a series of tutorials and a study theme upon the town of  " Aix-en- Provence "   in the south of France. I found this part of the course to be interesting and challenging.

Before the start of each tutorial we had to do a preparation study which was inportant to be able to be ready to give answers to the questions about the subject to be discussed in french. These were as follows;

Programme
1) Welcome and introduction to the a.l.e and what will be expected. What you have  to write on the forums. How to understand a given text. Answer the given questions. About the team project.  Working and studying n Aix.
2) The Geography of Aix-en- Provence understanding the given text and understanding history of Aix. Some of the other regions nearby. Then answer questions.
3) The environment and politics of the town, the mayor and the town council. President Macron's speech. Politics in France and questions.
4) Powerpoint presentation of Aix-en-Provence to the whole class by groups.
In prepartion time you may have to look up something on the internet or follow a line of study in the student guide book.

Each of the subjects has to have been studied to a certain extent before in the french modules but other new information may also be covered.

Then in break out rooms you have to pool your knowledge together with other team members about the particular topic of discussion about French life.

Someone from the group in turn is assigned to speak in french once back in the main class and will read out the answers given by the group  in french to the rest of the class.
The tutor confirms what they say and will add further information if necessary.

During the sessions you are expected to study one aspect of the town of Aix-en-Provence and write about it briefly to contribute towards a powerpoint presentation in session 4 using photographs, pictures and texts.

On the final tutorial these will be presented in front of the whole class with each member of the group speaking aloud in french about their own particular chosen aspect, there will also be questions to answer. It feels like we have really got to know well this town of Aix-en -Provence!!!

Unfortunately I experienced some technical problems but tried to follow the best I could.
Then at  the end after a certain time the paticipants will be awarded a certificate for taking part in the a.l.e.

Learning to use powerpoint

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Monday 28 June 2021 at 08:49

Hi fellow students,

I was relaxing this afternoon because it was a hectic week and next week it is going to be hectic too with tutorials, preps, presentations, group practice work, a.l.e.  and T.M.A. to start to prepare.
I am getting to grips with learning all about using the power point. I have never done anything like this before and I am not particularly technical.
I barely know one end of the computer to the other. You may laugh but this is a big deal for me, I am like someone from the last century !
I managed to put a photo on and write a text in the box this week.
Just now I watched football with hubby Leicester versus Man United good match we had some cheese, coleslaw and crisps sandwiches with some beer together and I tried to understand what was going on as he explained things to me and I just  nod in agreement.
This week I have learned a lot - power point, computers and football !
Which goes to prove you are never too old to learn !
Now where's my zimmer frame? Just joking ! lol!
Happy studying everyone !

Playing catch up !

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Wednesday 4 May 2022 at 08:54

Hi,
This weekend I have been studying again as I am writing out TMA 04 which I have left very late because I had to do the A.L.E learning course.

It has been a real struggle juggling both of these two things together at the same time.  For a moment at one point, I felt like I wouldn't make it, as I only have a few days left!

Now I am having to play catch up in order to finish this TMA.I think I have struggled a bit towards the end of this module really pushing  my limits now! Starting to feel a bit frazzled !

However this evening I can relax a bit and then start again the next day with the next part.

Time to study and practise🎹 piano,?

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday 21 January 2024 at 19:47

Hi Bloggers,

I am pleased to have started learning and practising the piano in my spare time again. I already managed to reach grade 6 when I was younger but I had to give up due to circumstances beyond my control.

The main reason I took up playing piano again was boredom really to be locked up at home during the lockdown. I also had a little fall a while back,  in which I hurt my hand so I thought it might be good to exercise my hand a little bit to strengthen the muscles. I will try to play some classical and folk music at first which is gentle, easy and slow.

I am going to see how it goes and just play for relaxation in between studying,  for short bursts in between activities and family life.

What hobby or hobbies have you taken up during lockdown?

I Hope you are all keeping well and that your studies are progressing well.
