I heard Jeremy Vine say on the radio yesterday that Pret-a-Manger is actually owned by McDonalds!!!! (He also stated that Green & Blacks is owned by Cadbury!).
Dunno if it's true, but if it is - well, I'm gobsmacked? Next they'll tell us that Primark is owned by John Lewis!
Hiya JoAnn - Happy New Year to you too! Hope all is going swimmingly with this year's course(s)...
TBH I think it's impossible to keep track of who own's what these days - I mean Cadbury might own Green & Blacks but who owns Cadbury this week, is it Hershey, Kraft or someone else? As for Pret, I've nothing against snooty sandwiches at all - I mean they're just bread and filling the same as any other sarney, so what's not to like? - it's just the image behind them that annoys me. well that and the gonks who buy into it. Look under the counter, and the plastic tubs full of egg mayonaisse and coronation chicken don't look so very much different from the ones under the counter in Greggs, but you'd think from the sales pitch you were looking at the difference between a fried egg and a Faberge egg...
