Hello everyone my name's Aislinn. I'm 25 and live in weymouth/Yeovil. I work as an Aircraft Engineer in the Royal Navy.
so, why the HELL am I doing a psychology degree? quick answer: I have absolutely no idea.
psychology has always been a subject of interest to me. Particularly criminology and forensics. I like to know what makes people tick. Why we let certain things get under our skin, whilst we skim past others. What influences our behaviour when it comes to how we treat other people. I want to know why that guy on the news thought it would be a great idea to attack several people, why he chose to do it in such an elaborate manner and why he doodled a dinosaur in the dirt next to the body.
but then I also quite like the idea of just having a degree I guess.. Maybe it's just that. Maybe I'll get the degree and at the end think 'you know what, I'm not actually too bothered about this stuff..'. I'm hoping not. Otherwise I'm dealing with all this anxiety, excitement and nervous energy about starting the course for no reason whatsoever. It did however give me a great excuse to buy a desk and a shed full of stationary..
I wasn't expecting this introductory post to go on in such a rambling fashion. I guess we don't always reach the expected outcome of our actions. (Life lesson no.1! Thanks mum.)
anyway, I'm planning on delving into the forensic route of the course. Give me a shout if you also have no idea what you're about to embark on!
Toodle pip!
Edit:: I've just noticed how much I said 'I guess' in this post. I never say that. Apologies if it was an infuriating read!

Nope - it wasn't an infuriating read at al! Your enthusiasm is understandable as you are starting a journey of discovery about stuff far removed from your everyday life.
Not all of us on here (View Site Entries on your Blog to see who 'Us' refers to) have a clear cut idea on why we are undertaking / have taken, such an academic challenge when we've no real need to. But you know what? If something is telling you to do it - then why not?.
Indulge your curiosity and turn it into knowledge. There's nothing so empowering as sussing out the whys and the wherefores of human behaviour (No, I haven't done psychology, just a little self-awareness many years ago).
You'll probably come across Transactional Analysis somewhere in a psychology course - it'll teach you to recognise when someone, including yourself, is behaving as a child/adult/parent and, most importantly, how to deal with them!
Thank you for your breezy blog and thank you for defending my country.
Go-go-go !

Ooh my first comment! I'm actually a tad excited! Haha
You're absolutely right though, why not do it?! Besides, curiosity is at the base of human nature and without it I doubt we would of made many of the accomplishments we have. Let this be my (and all those fellow students of course!) adventure.
I shall raise a glass tonight in hopefully not sucking too bad at the course!

Good luck! I hope that you find the experience of OU study as rewarding as I and many other OU students have found it Don't be surprised if it drives you crazy sometimes ... despite the subject you're pursuing!
