... anyway people from Uxbridge (and Slough?) would disagree with the implications on mine I 'spect Brent Cross used to be a fav place, not going there now tho as it's hard to get to from here. I only ever shop because I need the stuff; but it did inspire those words, however obscure they might seem....
Good point about the boiling for a brew - also microwave on which I rely heavily for ‘hotness’ of foods! It does do a ping tho...
“Making Slough Happy” comes to mind with this type of ‘townyness’. I guess the TV producer wasn’t too bothered that Slough people may (or may not) consider themselves happy. Activities and stuff was shown with folks happy after them. Uxbridge used to be a lot different when I was a kid, now the centre is much like any other. Salisbury, on the other hand (to which I was nearby for 5 years 'till recently) was quite different from both sorts of Uxbridge. Trying not to criticise too much here of course.
I've never heard of Making Slough Happy, so can't comment!!
Microwaves are not my friends. And therefore I don't own one! It's not the ping that bothers me but the explosions I always seem to cause. In fact, I don't usually make it to the ping. I just don't use them anymore. Ever!

No implication. I just don't hear the name used much, and have friends there. It is a much-liked word in my life. It displays excellently in my mind.New comment
You don't need a kettle
go like mainland Europe and use a pan
you can then brew up all night
it's silent
