During
the Gold Rush of 1848, Big Nose George, a notorious bandit, terrorized Wyoming
with his gang. Despite numerous crimes, he escaped the gallows and was
eventually lynched in 1881.
After his death, his remains were desecrated by
doctors, with his skin used for shoes, a medical bag, and a mask. Rediscovered
in 1950, his skull and shoes are now displayed in the Carbon County Museum.
