Is anyone else really paranoid that they are not capable of doing this diploma let alone pass it. I have no faith in myself what so ever.

Go for It Zara!

Hello Zara

If your friends said, 'Well Done, Zara!' and 'Go for it, Zara!' when you told them you were studying with the Open University, then it is because they at least, admired your determination and belief in yourself. They still do.

I have read posts that make it clear that the contributor thinks they cannot grasp the subject material sufficiently well to be confident in answering a question in an assignment. I thought that too, when I started with the Open University. I have a good solid knowledge base but realised that I could not use any of it because we need to reference our declarative statements. I didn't enjoy my OU studies much when i started either.

I find that if I get some context on the subject, like what was the world like when a painting was painted or how did the Crimean War benefit medical research, from a wider scope of information such as the internet (even Wikipedia), then I become more engaged in my Open University (more focused) studies. Study, for me, has to be fun; I need to relax into it.

Level One is really a learning period for learning how to learn, so if you are struggling because you have just started with the Open University, then you are one of thousands of people who are currently struggling or have struggled. It gets way, way better and much easier.

I believe in you because you are reaching out in desperation or despair, even though those emotions are temporary. You are not just giving up in silent regret. If you are resourceful enough to post on a blog site that potentially has tens of thousands of people reading your blog posts, then you are also resourceful enough to search for your own clues to make your studies easier, and you will definitely be a much better student that will help others later, because you will have built a strong core of academic strength.

So, I say, 'Go, Zara, Go! Woo Hoo! You are going to be a big winner! You are strong and you will be even stronger!'

Unfortunately, you will read this last bit a lot, as advice given to every student - Talk to your tutor about your concerns.
