Week 2 - Recap

Visible to anyone in the world

My second week studying MU123 and M140

I am still adjusting to the busy schedule, but I am more organised. I completed 33 hours of study, tutorials, exercises and additional learning activities.

Weekly overview

  • Began Unit 1 with MU123

  • I focused on MU123 on weekdays from Monday to Thursday. I completed unit 1 and submitted my iCMA on Thursday (12 February 26), 5 days prior to the cut-off date.

  • Friday and the weekend, I focused on completing M140 Book A, Unit 1. Furthermore, I completed The Computer Guide - Scatter plots, stemplots, and calculations; Answered questions related to Unit 1 from the iCMA, and practised Minitab.

In MU123, I learned some formulas for calculating recipe quantities, but mostly I found it easy with refreshing negative numbers and fractions. I explored how to write mathematically and what is expected from me when answering the TMAs.

Most of my energy went into M140, where I completed the rest of Book A, Unit 1, The Computer Guide - Scatterplot, stemplot and calculations in Minitab. Topics were focused around Minitab, Stemplots, and how to look at data distribution in  stemplots (alone values, outliers, modals, ranges, stretching and squashing, modals - unimodal, bimodal, multimodal, and how to interpret the data and answer the TMAs correctly)

Something interesting I learned is that in statistics, sometimes the data can be interpreted subjectively, like interpreting the modals. For some people, a graph might show unimodal, but others might say it's bimodal.

Other activities

  • Early on, I started using Minitab to produce graphs, experimented with graphs, statistics, formulas, etc. I tried to be ahead of the book, and when I started the practise exercises in the module, I was confident, and accelerated fast in my study.

Reflection

I found that you have to invest way more than 16h a week to be on top of the game. I am planning to be consistent and be ahead of schedule. I am committing to completing my studies earlier this year, if possible. I believe that - "consistency beats speed over time." - as stated in The Study Guide for MU123.

Next week

Balanced approach to both MU123 and M140, with a look to more distance modules to understand what will be studied. Allocate more time to the Math Help module I started, and look over the TMAs to develop a strategic aproach of tackaling them
