How interesting...

Visible to anyone in the world

The apocryphal Chinese malediction, 'may you live in interesting times', seems to have come to pass, it would  appear. At the time of writing, Italy has just seen the cost of it's borrowing hit 8% per annum - beyond the level at which Ireland was forced to seek additional aid to stave off bankrupcy. Greece has already defaulted in all but name and the likelihood is that Portugal may well be next in line. I'm not an economist, but, as best I understand these things, the real fear is that the emergency funds available to help 'bail out' the countries in trouble simply may not be enough and in that event, well, put it this way, history tends to show that the consequences can be bad. Very bad. There can be little doubt, it seems to me, that we are witnessing the first significant tremours in what will be a fairly swift and possibly very distressing shifting of the world order.

It's likely to be very messy. Conceivably, revolutionary (in the truest sense of the word). Possibly calamitous. Based on the events of the 1930s, it could even lead to war.

In that context, as an adjective, 'interesting' seems barely adequate.

This is Larry David, not me, but in many ways we're similar :)

funnily enough, I remember reading even as a child about the typical end of civilisations; how there seemed to be a pattern with increased sexual freedoms, over-indulgent behavior, exploitation, etc., etc. and so I've kind of grown up half expecting it of western civilisation really.

maybe I should squeeze in a bit more over-indulgeny behavior while I've still got the chance!

It's the little things like edit buttons that are the first victims, Jeremy!
