Public comments now working

Visible to anyone in the world

Just an update on my previous post. Public comments in OU blog are now working (I hope - I'm about to test it), so you can leave comments on this post even if you don't have an OU login.

If you have an OU blog like this one and you want to use the feature, see the previous post for information about how to turn it on for your own blog posts. You have to select it for each post, it won't happen by accident.

New comment

Are public blog comments really ready or are they, like me, unready?

At last, a commentable blog

Just seeing if this works Sam. Well done. Keep up the good work.

My problem with OU Blog

I can't find my way back to the discussion on Moodle.org to which you responded, so I'm putting this here. The problem remains: when I create an OU Blog activity on our system, I cannot see any posts ("There are no visible posts in this blog") when it's set to "visible individual blogs." I followed the suggested setup steps and it made no difference. The "visible individual" dropdown is there and displays people who are in the course but haven't posted, if that makes any difference. I'd file it as an issue in Moodle Tracker, except that I'm still not sure it's a local problem (or maybe just my stupidity).

New comment

I am probably stating the obvious here, but when you first create a blog, there won't be any posts. What happens when you add some? Or is the add new post button not appearing?

I just remembered there is maybe this problem people are talking about (which they seem to have managed to hack some voodoo solution for, but I don't understand how) already. See this linked Moodle forum thread which is probably a more appropriate place for any future discussion of the issue!

Public comment needs approval?

So, if this public comment is approved, will it show up on your blog with my name as I have typed it above, or will it say "Anonymous user" or "Guest" or something similar? This would be a great feature to enhance the already awesome oublog module! Thanks for the good work, Sam!
