Aim: to explore design principles that have the potential to support an alumni initiative in the context of AWARD by identifying relevant elements of COP and social learning system theory and developing systemic metaphors and heuristics.
Project Methodology:
- identify elements of COP theory with potential to support Alumnae initiative
- identify elements of social learning systems theory with potential to support Alumnae initiative
- identify critical success and risk factors for design from other alumni entitities
- Develop metaphoric and visual models and design principles from systems literature
- Identify first list of systemically desirable high potential design principles
- Discuss models and design principles with AWARD fellows, mentors, staff and other key stakeholders in order to identify culturally feasible principles of design

Hi Arwen
I've just spent a few minutes staring at your proposal and then found myself re-wording it in my head. I then got in a dilemma because I did not want to 'impose' my view of the purpose on you. Then I thought, no surely isn't this about another perspective? So here we go....
What I think you are saying is that you are going to:
... support the development of AWARD alumni scheme by
... a combination of desk-based research (into theory and practice elsewhere) and stakeholder discussions
.... in order to make sure the scheme is both systemically desirable and culturally feasible.
Hope that is an okay paraphrase.
I suppose what I am not sure of is the 'research methodology' aspect - I can see that you will do additional literature review (including academic materials and case study collation) to the minimum required for TMA01.
So, will your stakeholder discussions be interviews or 'focus group' style? - will they generate 'data' to analyse? (which seems a good chunk of TMA03).
In some ways only your tutor can say whether your plans seem to 'fit' with the T847 requirements. I guess what I am saying is that it is not immediately obvious to me - and that makes me a little cautious.
To try and sound a little more helpful - I wonder whether using the 'structure' of a systemic inquiry (TU812, Ison's book page 248) may help. The idea that you are using ideas and concepts from systems to explore a particular situation and find out more about the interests of different stakeholders.
I hope these thoughts help - I'll keep mulling it over

Thanks Helen,
I was having a similar conversation in my own head as i woke up this morning. I was thinking of ways of getting systematic data more than just random conversations.
I was thinking maybe semi-structured interviews could be the way to go. A survey could work too I think but our fellows get so many forms to fill in I think there could be a risk of form fatigue.
I will look at the page you suggest. Thanks
Arwen

now i am mulling on your thoughts! I think your rephrasing captured it perfectly so it is good we are on the same page.
I am not sure whether or not it fits the module requirements. I think it does, at least from all i have read and from looking at what is needed in the first assignment. But i hope i am not wrong.
