burn out

Visible to anyone in the world

I've done no maths for days.

I'm on back-shift; mornings I lie in bed reading about Lenin and Stalin, evenings I try to cope with the massive mound of undone work-tasks.

But I can't concentrate and I get nothing done.

Been here before, know what to do, but I can't muster the energy to, start to, whittle down the mountain of the undone. I have excuses: I've only had two days off this month, I've only used half of my holiday entitlement this year, I'm a minion down, I had two TMAs to do in quick succession...

But excuses aren't a help, something must be done, the question is what?

The first thing to do is to admit that you have a problem [that would be this]. Next you have to rest. From past experience I know that the worst thing that you can do is a panicked attempt at catch-up.

Then do one thing.

Been here before, will be here again. Don't panic!

Sounds like you've cracked it, Neil!  You'll get there smile.  When I'm in a similar situation, I have to write down everything I have to do so it's not swishing round in my feeble opology for a mind.  Then I have to tick things off as I do them - usually very slowly.  Drink lots of water to keep hydrated as this can help concentration.

Sounds like you're just suffering from overload and you're brain's getting back at you for it big grin.  Be nice to yourself and don't overdo it!

You can do it Neil.

Hi Neil,

you say, I can't muster the energy, is energy the problem or motivation, sometimes I find if it's a topic I dont particualrly like, it can be hard to get through, but get through it nonetheless I must, reaching the other side is what counts! and just think of how far you have come also.

Sometimes this happens. When it happens to me I always blog it—seems to help.

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Missed this blog somehow. Sounds like you are a master of the game Neil. All I would say is careful you don't burn yourself out. wink

Sounds like a lot of pressure. Been reading some of your maths posts - mind boggling stuff! Good luck getting on top of everything!

@Craig

What I do, OU-wise, isn't any harder than what others [you] do OU-wise. We are all in the same boat,  it's all hard, we all suffer the same hells.

I'm just better at broadcasting my hells, which is beginning to annoy me as, mostly, I have a lot of fun.

True, I'm often desperate, but I can stop this any time that I like.

I won't and don't.

And that's what I'm trying to get across.
