OU life

Visible to anyone in the world

October

I've decided to keep field notes on the OU blogs. As an OU birdwatcher I will be. Hubris, but fun, if only for me. One a month?

There is a rhythm to this OU life of ours, but we all march, "to the beat of a different drum". October means different things to different students, for some it's the exciting, start of the course; for others, the hell of the exam, the EMA deadline or the final end of the strife.

For some it's both or all.

It's interesting to me to see how different people feel about their October.

For me, today, it's the October-exam with its attendant horrors. I'm stressed, but I remember the feelings of an October 'new course'. I'll feel like that again.

That's the beauty of reading the blogs, wherever you are on the road you can...plug in...to another student's optimism, or despair, or hope, or worry...  You can remember when you felt like that, for all the emotions that you can possibly [OU] feel are on the blogs somewhere. Or are they?

For words are just words—how can they say everything?

I believe that words can say everything; but only if you have enough people who are willing to say what they really feel, in their own way. Then words can work.

I'm talking about you and the OU.

We have something special here, don't ever forget it, whatever October means for you. Now.

That's what I wanted to write about when I couldn't remember what I wanted to write about a few days ago!!  I'm glad I didn't now; I prefer your post.

I'm tempted to call you a fool. wink

You, Rosie are the exemplar of what I'm talking about: someone who just talks. There are many blogs here that  have some other agenda. I'm down with that. But the best blogs are the ones where people just say what they feel.

I sense a rant coming on, so stop neil.

thanks Rosie

Agree with you Neil, like Rosie's words, like the insight of other people's lives...words can be a lot of things but like the words that are realistic, positive and healing the most. xx

I'll be logging in with interest to read your field notes. Will they be accompanied by pictures?

As for October, it has mixed emotions for me. I am relieved to have completed the course but sad that it has ended, that sounds stupid doesn't it? At present I feel like a lost soul with nowhere to go and I can't find an OU course I fancy to start in February, the ones I would like to do don't start until May. I don't need one at the moment as I am going to carry on with my Welsh myself, but as I am retiring in December I will have more time available in Feb.

Thanks for all your blogs by the way, they always make me smile.

(Jameela, unfortunate timing there!  Yes, positive and healing is good.  But I do enjoy N's rants wink)

Rosie, that's fine, I was going to add an encouragement to Neil in my comment too.  The rants are what make everything realistic...and realism can be a good step towards positive healing! xx

October for me, Neil, has mixes blessings this year. One module almost over but has been good and tinged with a bit of sadness. But there's also looking forward to another module which for all the years I've studied i've never had this expectation so soon after the end of a module. So mixed feeling but good ones. Now for your rant! What's it going to be on? Regards Nigel

Hi Neil

Love reading your blog smile.  Like Joyce, I'm feeling a little like a lost OU soul this October.  My next module doesn't start until Feb.  Yet, at the same time, by reading my favourite blogs I still feel like I belong.  So, thank you smile.  As for words, for me they don't come easy.  I worry too much about what I write sometimes, but I'll learn!
