Sort of a comment-on-the-whole-blog with no particular place to be put. Well, a couple of comments. Three at most.
i) Topology is awesome, especially when it unexpectedly turns into logic (see Heyting algebras...).
ii) XML is...not. But there's an awful lot of it about, still. Having seen the XML wave roll in, and seen it roll out, I now consider myself a properly qualified Cynical Old Programmer. I still have a soft spot for XSLT, although I couldn't tell you why.

Hi Neil
Sort of a comment-on-the-whole-blog with no particular place to be put. Well, a couple of comments. Three at most.
i) Topology is awesome, especially when it unexpectedly turns into logic (see Heyting algebras...).

iii) Your fiction reminds me a bit of my friend Carl Neville's: http://www.lulu.com/browse/search.php?fListingClass=0&fSearch=carl+neville.
