that's odd

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Neil Anderson, Monday, 20 Aug 2012, 23:03

I was working my way through uniform convergent/point convergent sequences of functions. We don't seem to care what space we are in any more. My brain is beyond hurt with thinking. Then I saw something. I played a few games of solitaire and I think that I'm right.

There comes a point place when you can remove enough pegs so that a single peg finish isn't possible any more. I can't prove this but there's some limit condition here I'm sure. I'd love to know where that place is. Which might mean that there is always a point convergent sequence of functions under a certain limit? Mmmmm.

Dammit neil, build that app properly! It's not as if you haven't had years and years to do so.

Jumping, jumping, Neo. Still I have a shining new tool for my toolbox. And my personal madness is burning bright once again.

Glad you're back in a functioning place.

The sad thing is that I'm always 100% functional.

When I really shouldn't be.

Dysfuntional has its advantages. For some.

re your decision to abandon Group Theory you could always do M303 when (if ) it arrives on the scene. Something I'm more and more thinking about doing the advantages are

a) It gives you a chance to revisit topics that are obscure and I'm talking about M338 here. (Although after alans tutorial it's making a bit more sense)

b) You will also be able to do the Algebra parts as well.

c) The group theory wont have any wall paper ;) although lattices are important in Solid state physics so it isn't just about wall paper

Ok it's an excluded combination. But I know you  Neil you aren't going to escape from the clutches of the OU you'll be doing a second degree at least. If you make it an open one you wont have to do any level 1 courses as you will already have a first degree. So you can pick and choose to your hearts content.

As I have a shed load of humanities courses I want to do I'll be putting M303 into my third open degree (!) and might do some Astronomy courses as well. Something to think about anyway.

Ps I didn't mean abandon group theory but rather stop worrying about not being able to get a distinction.

Also if you really are going to burn the books after it's finished please don't I'm sure we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement. No one should burn books even if they are perceived to be loathsome and there are plenty I could think of.

Chris

You made me smile. I won't burn the books, although you won't like them either.

Why don't you do number theory next year with Graham and I?

Future plans for the n? I've started to get interested in quantum physics. Although the physics forums seem a wee bit rough. wink There's still the computing mSc...

Take care mate, hope you enjoyed the festival music.

I'm sorry but that is just not going to be possible due to the planners. I want to finish my second open degree by June 2014 and the modules include MST326 (fluids and maths) but MST326 will only be presented this year. So it makes sense to start M381 in October 2013.

Still I will enjoy your ups and downs about it by reading your blogs. Maybe me you and graeme and others of the MS221 class of 2010 should aim to meet up about once a month for Old times sake. The theatre royal is a good bar as it has big tables at the back and is relatively quiet.

Best wishes Chris

@nobody

I think I'm wrong about this. I've found an odd two-peg removed that you can reflect-reverse but for which I don't think you can find a one peg finish.
