the numbers

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Neil Anderson, Monday, 17 Sep 2012, 21:36

"Yes, that's a wee bit worrying. It's not as if we ever liked terminated decimals,"

"Are they...?"

"Well they don't seem to be transcendental, they all seem terminated, and none of us has ever seen a rational, never mind an integer."

"They are all real?"

"But they aren't all the reals"

Sounds like science fiction - maybe by Lessing.

I like that russian doll idea:

All integer (-1,0,1) are in rational numbers (-1.5,0,1.5), all rational numbers are in real numbers (pi,e,square root of an imperfect square) and all real numbers are in complex numbers (5+4i etc.).

I probably got this wrong out of my head smile

@Marcus

Have a go at the definition of real numbers. Hardy's Pure Maths is a good place to start.

Will do...

Question: is there a lot of math in the text? I am wondering because there is no Kindle edition mixed
