Neil, there's no direct link from the top level to M381 yet at your website.
I'm in almost total agreement with you about never knowing, and only travelling. When I studied at Edinburgh I met several remarkable people, one of whom just seemed to absorb foreign vocabulary and syntactic structures in one pass, others who would have no problems understanding everything in real time: I always have to go and think about things, and work out whether I know them or not. It would be great to be like them, but I just have to get on the best I can with myself and my limited abilities. Then even those people have the Chomskys above them; and above Chomsky? Even Chomsky is not all-seeing, all-knowing (though I find that difficult to believe sometimes)!
