Reflections of Unit 2

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Deborah Judah, Saturday, 2 Oct 2010, 19:05

I found that there was a lot to do in Unit 2 and although my tutor had pointed this out in the Tutor group forum I did not totally comprehand the quantity of work. Consequently I spent lot of time concentrating on Core Activity 2.1 which did not leave me enough time to do the rest of the unit as much justice as I would have liked. I would have like to participate more in the forum discussion but by the time I had formulated some ideas that time for the unit had come to an end.

I was able to complete the work by the end of the unit ( with one day extra) but I felt annoyed with myself that I had lost the opportunity to discuss some of the issues in the other core activity with my fellow cohort. My belief was that I should work through each activity from beginnning to end in chronological order and therefore I did not look at the other discussion forums as I was not ready to do that work.

From this experience I have realised that I must read through the whole unit briefly on day one and make a mental note of what is required for each activity.  I must also try and work on more than one task at a time in order to get the most out of the interactivity of this course.

this is a useful idea Deborah.  I have also been going though the activities one by one and have been opening up the threads for the new activity only when i am ready to move onto it, but find that people have then moved on also to something new by that time and i might have missed the boat.  I will try out your idea of working on several at the same time.  Thanks for that thought in your blog

I agree it is a super busy course and its hard to get the time to really think things through fully before moving on --

however each of the assignments gives a pause for reflection of earlier units which helps cement the learning

Doing H807 my fellow students shared the importance of working 'strategically.' i.e. as you are suggesting Deborah, looking ahead and allocating the time you have to each task. In practice I am like the proverbial child in a sweet shop; I love most of it, so over indulge ... and then find a piece of marzipan and don't want that at all. I am finding the 'Map' as they call it invaluable, this is a table/chart, blow by blow of the units, tasks and resources.

I have this in word and simply colourise the text read as the task is completed.

My problem, a real nightmare, is a tendency to get 95% of the way and not find a way to wrap up and move on. I think I'm still diddling about with things from unit 2. Even if they don't exist I want to create a mental drawbridge that comes down as the week or fortnight concludes. i.e. I have to commit and finish! All the best, Jonathan.
