Delivering PTLLS online

Visible to anyone in the world

I am about to produce an on-line module to deliver some of the PTLLS course in my FE college. There is lots of scope for on-line delivery and I am keen to exchange ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

How much of the stand-alone PTLLS have you delivered online?

What platforms are you using?

Have you used a forum?

Have you used online tutorials?

Please join in the exchange of information, views and advice

Hi John,

Offering the PTTLS course on line does sound like a good idea.  I looked in to doing the PTTLS/CTTLS course via distance learning but decided against it in the end.  Some of the websites didn't seem 100% legitimate to me and I didn't want to get in to something that I'd regret.

I'd be interested to know a bit more about how you would actually go about assessing, because students have to do a micro session don't they?  One of the websites I looked at said they do it via video link.  I don't think it's ideal to do it this way because firstly it relies on the student having all the relevant technology and being able to use it.  Secondly, how can the assessor get a full view of the class through a video link?

I've completed my PTTLS through the WEA.  I'll be watching this blog to see how you get on smile

I've just done PTLLS, a list of 10 questions & a 30 min micro teach. All in all, I suppose I spent a working day on it. It wasn't planned that way, shall we say it was an oversight by the uni (I'm doing a PGCE LLS).

I see no reason why PTLLS can't be delivered online, infact, it would have been an enhancement in my case!

Hello Salma and Bren.I would be interested to know how you were assessed on your PTLLS courses. Did you write 500 words on a given topic or did you put responses in boxes?

Bren, I don't see an alternative to doing the micro-teach face-to-face, but that's not a problem, I don't think.

What sort of contact did your tutors have with you outside the classroom? E-mail, a forum, a VLE, Facebook?

Does anyone have any experience using Blackboard or another VLE as the basis of an online course?
