Trumpet playing, 2013

Not a lot...

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Pete Collier, Thursday, 18 Apr 2013, 20:25

we continue! I used to ‘do’ a lot of Pete Tong a few years backcool

So, quietly studying for TMA06 (S104) and TMA02 (DD131) but will have to ramp it up a bit after the weekend if I’m not to rush at the last minute… At least iCMA 46 (geology) came back good and is the best mark since iCMA 43. A better result than chemistry and biology, but not physics!

Went food Shopping in Slough today; played trumpet in church on Tuesday (and will again on Friday) and still have Smetana’s Ma Vlast keeping me company. Talking of which, I managed to get copies of the actual music to all six of these symphonic poems this week, full scores and trumpet parts. I will use this to follow the different musical threads, as they are played, especially the trumpet part!

Spring seems to have sprung at last even if it is very windy around here which is taking the edge off it a bit…sad

If there's a second preference to saxophone for instruments which were no part of my life at all, but which I wish I had learned to play, it's the trumpet!

I think it's the trumpet portion of Glory Allegetta (Grand Triumphal March) from Aida (Verdi) that captured my imagination!

Spring has indeed sprung.  But too late for the frozen bulbs!

But the apple and cherry blossom is looking promising!

Well, hello there JoAnne and thanks for dropping by (to quote yourselfwink!)

When I was a youth (in the 1970s) I played many great orchestral works, including (portions of) Aida - it is sort of standard repertoire for a good youth orchestra, if I remember correctly… many others come to mind but I won’t fill this space with them (just yet!) I have very good memories of these years, culminating with one of my biggest events when I played trumpet in Verdi’s Requiem with Ealing Youth Orchestra in the early 80s (in Stevenage, Herts - I think?). A brilliant and wonderfully extravagant work and one that is not easy to get to sound good, but of course, ours did big grin. By this time, sort of unfortunately, I was working and this became the last large orchestral work that I played in…sad

The only Sax stuff I know is the stuff that I hear, but did try the clarinet for a few months whilst still at schoolthoughtful

As you may have seen (?) I do listen to many and varied types of music but at the moment I am in a 'Czech phase’ for orchestral pieces, and there is always Steely Dan to hand for the jazz-fusion sound and the well written ‘horns’ parts that include both trumpet and sax… cool

Spring took awhile, but yes, the apple blossom is looking promising, as are many of the trees that I see from my upstairs window.
