Fig. 1 BBC Weather

Blame the pesky jet stream. It feels odd to be wearing socks and a jumper after so long. There is a bonus: I become the hot water-bottle my wife snuggles up to smile Until she decides the dog sleeping across her cold feet might be less hassle.

"If you're up very early on Sunday you might find frost on your car!"

When will the first snow fall over 'high ground' i.e on the tip of The Shard, Snowdonia, the Lake Distric, Cheviots and Highlands ...

I'm freezing but have not resorted to the heating as part of the problem is front door open to let hubby and friend in and out as they work on the cars.  Thought I might need to bring the tortoise in for a 'warm' as he won't feed when he is cold, but he is toasty - maybe I could use him as a hot water bottle? obviously some advantage to being six inches off the ground and sleeping in the greenhouse.

Will my tomatoes rippen before the wind blows them over?! No more reading the Kindle in the garden - next best thing is a hot bath.

Mum's tomatoes didn't ripen. Our french beans and runner beans are finished, onions pulled, cabbages ready even if outer leaves are shredded by caterpillers (netting didn't totally work) carrots and parsnips ready, kale and celery doing well. Potatoes small, sweet and edible - no good for growing on due to blight. Weeds rampant.

I've just pulled up the broccoli - one plant as big as an umbrella. Also a handful of miniature green peppers, some raddishes and an aubergine the size and shape of a banana sad
