I'd ask; she'd decline.
Rejected. Offended. Us.
Six years on - too late.
It was a long time ago, but it still smarts, that for six years she did not know I was serious, and I did not know she was mock-offended. And when we found out, it was too late. It may not have burned long, but it would have burned bright.
Maybe the scars would have been worse than not knowing.
Or maybe not.
Scars heal; not knowing gets worse.
