Blade runner 2

Visible to anyone in the world

I have watched blade runner 2 three times now, i still cannot make my mind up.

It is either stunning or somewhat bollocks, and three viewings later, i still cannot work out which one it is...

What do you all think of it?

Me in a rare cheerful mood

Have you read much Philip K. Dick?  Have you read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?  This is that rare thing, a film that warrants watching alongside reading the related book.  That in itself makes it special, I think.

If you haven't read it, give it a go, it's not a long story.  Then see what you think of Blade Runner 2049.

If you have read it, in the context of the book, what do you think of the film?

Blade Runner is one of my favourite films. Do Androids Dream... is one of my favourite novels.

I've been weirdly avoiding this new film, even though I've had access to a copy for two weeks now!

Perhaps I'll watch it. If I get upset I'll let you know.

Hi Simon,

Yes i have read the book, i have read all of Dick's books. When i was young 10-20 years old i read my way through all the sci-Fi i could get my hands on.

It was a golden age for writers, Dick, Heinlein, Bradbury, Blish and my most favourite writers, Niven and Purnelle. i loved the inconstant moon, ring world and mote in Gods eye books my favourites by those two. Footfall was a bit of a let down, and i really loved Inferno, their version of Dante's inferno.

I think the moon is a harsh mistress was outstanding.

As for the new blade runner film, i still am not sure if i love it or if it leaves me cold. I have still only watched three times, i have watched the first blade runner 50+ times, in all of its incarnations. Blade runner 2 does indeed have some breath taking moments in it, especially visually but at other points, in relation to the story, i felt it has a few 'REALLY' moments that seem to jar.
