John Peel's Radio 4 programme, Home Truths had a period where they covered naming stories.
One was a lady who was born in Africa. Her name is pronounced Fem Arly.
Her mother had travelled a long way to hospital to give birth and it was difficult. When she came round from anaesthetic after the birth, she found the nurses themselves had given the baby a name. It was written on a slip of paper they have put round the baby's wrist.
She returned home with her new baby and told everyone it was called Fem Arly.
It reminds me of the joke about the man who found a luxury sports car outside his house, got in and drove off.
When he was stopped by the police, he explained he'd assumed it was a birthday present. "It's my birthday today", he said, "And it has my name on it, look! Fer Arri, it says".

That's interesting.
