I thought that was clever satire on a fiction, rather than there really being a proposal for a fake news watchdog. I was going to point out people here are reading fake news - like that have done in the USA for a long time - out of choice and because it is less stupid and miserable than the 'real' news.
I don't know what is more scary: a government-controlled agency that decides what news we can see (like China) or is declared fake (as they have in Russia), or an international corporate controlled body that decides what smaller competition to suppress (as is being proposed here) or a major media mogul controlled body (standard regulation) that gets what competition to crush. Given our local newspaper group is also currently collapsing, it's time there was a new 'new media'.
