New Scientist 10 July 2021 has a cover story Consciousness. Item 1 begins

“IN ESSENCE consciousness is any kind of subjective experience.”

Maybe not meant to be a definition but I still found it horribly weak. Sorry NS.

It is very weak...

I think the ability to think abstractly is a far better definition...

Or perhaps it is the ability to organise thoughts in a logical way?

These abilities are the only thing that separate human brains from animal brains, after all...
