A Hideaway

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Gill Burrell, Sunday, 21 Jan 2024, 17:57

Over the weekend I spent an hour or so in the garden, and  in my little garden wooded area,  behind my house, clearing away more weeds. The grass is growing long and I am leaving it to grow,  to encourage lots of insects and butterflies.

I went "inside" my little mini- wood,  this definitely needs tidying up. If I am to still use it for sitting in, then I need to lop off some of the branches or they will poke me in the eye!

Then the trees in the little wood that need trimming, are some Elders, an Apple tree, a Pear tree, a Holly tree, and another I can't yet identify yet, then going the other way, there's a row of evergreens. A plum tree in front, on the small lawn and various butterfly bushes, and a golden privet to the side. These form the outer walls of the canopy.

The floor of my little garden wood has branches and stones, these need clearing out of the way. There are bits of wood scattered around and broken pots, slabs and rocks that are the remainder of what was once a pond, which has dried up with the heat.
Pity,  I had such high hopes for it!

For the hedgehogs, I have placed an old small box no longer in use, onto its side and filled it with straw, this is good for when the hedgehogs visit.
A few times a squirrel has visited the garden woodland area recently, so I have put some nuts out for it, on the branch and on top of fence, which is his usual entry path.

The bramble berries to the side of the wood are now ripening, some red, some black and will soon be ready to pick. The whole bush,  was alive with the activity of butterflies, bees, insects, and now they are gone, it's the birds that are flying down to eat the berries.

The bird boxes are still on the trees high up above me, where we recently placed them. I don't know if there are any birds in the bird boxes yet, maybe next year. On the other side of my mini wood is my old, rather rustic, cobbled together wooden bench, looking a wee bit rickety, but still ok.

In here I can escape under the trees and sit and listen to the birds, read my book and study in peace. I can see to read if it is sunny enough! There is a shaft of sunlight shining through the trees illuminating the wood at the side of the garden and partition fence, that leads out to the front garden beyond.

I can see everything going on from inside of the wood,  Yet I am completely out of view from others!
It's just like my own little hideaway!

Hideaway...

Hi Gill,

Loved the content. 😄

To be consistent with my personality (at least since 1971...), I couldn't resist adding this link/ song, by Cockney Rebel (Mk.1), performed live;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSgws2uMv2Y

Featured: Steve Harley (birth surname, Nice); Stuart Elliott (drums); Milton Reame James (keyboards); John Paul Crocker (violin) and Paul Jeffreys (sadly killed on board the Lockerbie flight back in 1988).

On a separate subject, I'm looking forward to having access to my next OU module (unofficially) from 7 September (officially) 2 October 2021; S290 Investigating human health and disease. Whatever you are doing now (French, possibly) or next, all the very best with it,

Jeremy

Hi Gill

I was going to reply to your question of how to add pictures to a blog via jan's thread but somehow I cannot access her posting for today.

To answer your question, when you start a new blog post there is a box at the bottom which once you click on it you should get another box saying choose file, tap on that, select which you want to add be it a document or photos and tap on upload and they should appear in the attachments box.

Hope this helps

Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for the cockney rebel link liked it! lol! Just enjoying a staycation in my back garden at the moment. An occaional bike ride on a quiet country lane, visits to friends allotments and visiting a favourite wood nearby.

In October studying Language and creativity this one is in English this time. Hopefully should be slightly easier. I Hope you enjoy your Human Biology course and find it very interesting.

Best wishes Gill

Hi Mike,

I hope you are well? Thank you for explaining everything about posting photos on a blog post. I have never done this before and it might take me a while to work it out as I am a bit of a technical dummy! lol!

I wanted to put some nature photos of birds and garden. Hopefully I can do that at some point. Glad you enjoy playing music. I like to play my keyboard sometimes it helps me to relax.

Hi Gill

Happy to help and if I can help further I will certainly try, how is it going with the keyboard playing

It's going ok Mike thank you. I play more for pleasure these days rather than academically. I am classically trained and acheived grade 6 years ago,  but thats as far as I got, so now its just for fun. Now and then I go and buy a new music score or book and mess about and try it out! I like music from 60s & 70s. I also like folk, country and gospel as well as some experimental music.

I Hope your enjoying playing guitar music ?

Take care and keep strumming!🎸🎶🎹
