This rather pretty insect perched on my mint is a Brimstone moth, one of the Geometridae, so-called because their caterpillars are inchworms that progress by 'looping'. The animal anchors its rear legs, stretches the front part of its body forward, obtains a grip with its front legs and pulls the back of its body up behind it.
