Double helix of DNA which is the carrier of genetic information in all living organisms.
This molecule is characterized by an alternation of base pairs, i.e. two nucleic bases located on two complementary strands of DNA and RNA.
Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French female Chemist who has obtained the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020 for the discovery of the Molecular Scissors.
Her detailed description of the CRISPR-Cas9 (gene editing) technique, known as “molecular scissors”, offers vast prospects for use, particularly in medicine.
There is now the ability to remove mutant cells from strands of DNA which carry certain incurable diseases using this molecular scissors technique. This is very good news for those suffering incurable illnesses!
