I will give him a white stone

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Jim McCrory, Thursday, 26 Sept 2024, 12:22

In the book of Revelation, we find the following verse:

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers... I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.” Revelation 2:17

Two theories are proposed regarding Jesus statement. In ancient Rome invitations to the emperor's festivals and festivities were provided my the recipient receiving a white marble stone. See the following:

Another theory being when trials were conducted in ancient Rome and the judges had concluded their deliberation. They would register their votes by throwing a black or white stone into a vessel. If there were more white stones than black, the defendant was found to be not guilty. More black than white meant guilty.

When Jesus offered certain Christians in Pergamum a white stone, they were considered innocent, free from Idolatry; false worship of Roman gods.

Hey Jim,

I like this verse in Revelation about the white stone We are no longer guilty of original sin, because of Jesus Christ sacrifice and our faith in him.

Sure, Gill. I should have added that the white stone explanation is a theory. Some commentators have mentioned that you got a white stone when invited to something special. Either way, we get the drift. We are worthy.
