Recount of a work history
When I was at school I felt sure that I wanted to become a nurse. Everyone in my family said I would make a good nurse. Unfortunately, I had to leave school early to care for my mother who had become mentally disabled so there were too many obstacless and I was unable to finish all my studies at that time.
After caring for my mother for a few years, I then took a break, I was then able to pass the care of my mother over to my sister. Just after that I got married and had two children( another caring job!)
When the children started school I then decided to get a job in a residential/ nursing home. It was nearby to where I lived, this was quite convenient as I did not have far to travel and I could ride my bike there.
The residential home gave me excellent training and I had one day a week at college to gain my cerificate. I was responsible for writing reports, administering medications, as well as helping residents with their daily care. I was soon promoted to Senior Health Care worker .
My aunt helped me out a lot with child care, this was extremely helpful. After 5 years unfortunately the home closed down. By now my aunt was getting old and she needed more help herself, I looked after her for about two years, until she finally received more intensive medical care in the hospital.
Today I am grateful for my experiences over the pastt years and the good quality training I received in the residential home, this had come in very useful to me and had equipped me to do my job well.
