Woodlands and Green Spaces

Visible to anyone in the world

Some years ago,  my aunt and her friend who lived on the same housing estate wanted to save a piece of woodland. After some collaboration with the council and many residents signing a petition, there is now a wonderful green woodland there,  with bird boxes, shelters for hedgehogs and all in the middle of the housing estate! There is also a green space attached , a small green field that has a bench on, where people can take a break from their labours, their everyday tasks, to sit awhile and listen to the beautiful birdsong in the woods.

The original proposal for this piece of land, was a skateboarding park, or a house building project.  So Why put up green spaces or just leave natural woodland there?

What difference does it make anyway?

Maybe the youngsters may have liked to have had a skateboard park, although the noise would have been horrendous for the other older residents!
The trees would have been destroyed, the soil disappeared and no nature, no birdsong, no flowers would live there or grow there anymore. It would have just been a hard concrete place, with rubbish laying around, perhaps even a dangerous place to walk through!

On my road there is no woodland. However, there are some beautiful trees now in blossom, also some body has planted pretty flowers all along the public footpath like daffodils, tulips,  primroses, crocuses, blue grape hyacinths.

Each time I pass by here on my way to the shops, I can't help but smile to see these very pretty flowers. I don't know who or why someone did this,  but it makes life better in someway.

When everything is looking sad or gloomy in the country, the politics, the economy, the wars,  I look at these lovely flowers and think to myself not everything is sad. These flowers are real, alive, vibrant,  full of colour and this fills me with hope, that the world can be a better place!
