One of my mother's favourite flowers was the Forget-me-not, here seen growing wild in a lane, but perhaps a garden escape.
The name, which I suppose signifies enduring love, seems to have come into English from the continent. The German is Vergissmeinnicht and in the Oxford English Dictionary I found this nice quotation from the 16c
G. Du Wes, Introductorie for to lerne Frenche [ ] A flour of forget me nat, vne fleur de ne moubliez mye.
I ordered a Pinot. But they delivered a cruise ship.
Gods say; Gold was made at the Dawn.
Elves say; Gold is the reflection of our brightess.
Men-people say; Gold is what we want most to hold.
Dwarves say: Why must we everlastingly toil to raise any mineral?
Dragons say: Here I sit and here I stay. No Dwarf shall regain my Gold; No man shall rob it from me; Elves have their own Gold in the shining of their eyes; I am a God in disguise and so shall defend my Gold until the End, and the Ruin of Gods.

Hullabaloo?
Will you all try to keep the noise down please?
Because it was there!
