This is part of my response to L193 Thema 4 - Übung 6.3 in Audacity. As part of L193, Beginners' German, we were simply asked whether a series of statements were correct (Richtig) or false (Falsch) in the context of an audio clip, Abschnitt 52. As the underlying, sometimes lying too deep in my opinion, learning objectives are rather interesting I analysed the text perhaps further than necessary.

First I created an MP3 version and uploaded it into Audacity, creating a mono rather than a stereo audio track. Then I saved it in Audio format. I then listened to the piece, phrase by phrase transcribing my version of the German onto a set of labels on a label track. Using Audacity gives me more control over which phrases to listen too, especially when repetition is required. Of course, some of the statements asked about were present, some had minor changes, but that helped bed down the transcript.

When I had finished all three voices, I went to the transcript given in L193 and compared it with mine, amending the label tracks accordingly. Finally, I listened to each voice again to ensure I understood what was being said, in German, giving me help with pronunciation of some rather large obscure nouns. Lastly I am going to go over the text and ensure I look up new vocabulary. Fun, isn't it?
