Haiku for Spring Rain

Visible to anyone in the world

Walking home

Alone in the rain, I smelled.

Wet clothes. So I exist.

It only took one barley sugar to get Gran going and then her warmth filled the room. That's what you find with confection eaters.

Bright Star Haiku

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Richard Walker, Sunday, 9 Apr 2017, 22:40

When I felt those bright stars

They were so warm.

They glowed but they could only ask.

If another angel of intelligence

Could explain the strangeness of starriness.

Companions

Visible to anyone in the world

So we among the wastes of Time must go.

Are Love and Death the only friends we know?

Be bold, be brave, and understand,

You only need to hold another hand.

We cannot expect a hierarchy to be fair. Unfairness is the whole point of its existence.

The young pupil addressed the Abbess.

"Reverend Mother, how can I be a good teacher when I grow up?"

The Abbess replied: "By never forgetting you own childhood self."

A colleague said they were going to Aberdovey.

In Wales? I questioned.

No it's in the Middle East?

I don't like visiting the seaside. Never a pleasure, always a shore.

Childhood Reminiscence

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Richard Walker, Sunday, 26 Mar 2017, 23:34
Where I was brought up in the fens (I can smell the water-mint again now) it was very wet and marshy. People made a living, fishing, fowling, and peat-digging. In the winter there was a lot of flooding and homes were very cold and dank, so we eat a lot, for comfort and insulation. As a result most of us had quite generous waistlines.

Some of our relatives didn't like the life and moved from the meres and wetlands to higher and drier ground. There, no longer needing a high calorific intake, and influenced by different role models, they usually became more slender; even svelte in some instances.

We always referred to them as thin kin outside the bogs.
