It starts with suffering.
It is dissatisfaction, stress, sorrow, bewilderment which causes a feeling of samvega to arise (Samvega is a Pali word that means spiritual urgency).
The spiritual seeker is then confronted with many different paths. Paths that claim to be the truth and the way out of suffering, but which one do they choose?
After some careful deliberation they resolve to try out a path. This requires faith as they have not yet realised the truth for themselves.
Faith becomes joy. Finding a path of practice brings hope, and joy arises from giving up worldly anxieties.
Joy then settles into a peaceful contentment and an inner happiness which is independent of worldly conditions.
This then leads to samadhi. Unification of mind. Which brings balance and clarity. Samadhi focuses and steadies the mind so it can see clearly and know the truth for itself.
From that clear-seeing, insight arises.
If it's the right insight it will lead to the deathless and the end of sorrow.
