Tutorial

Visible to anyone in the world

All very straightforward. He phoned at exactly the specified time. He'd looked through the "activity 4" I'd sent him, sees no problems.

Time spent on things, energy needed - he reckons the test of if I can cope with 5 hours study is unecessary, nobody would ever do that. I compared to a 7-hour normal working day - no comment.

Those times when I wonder what the question is about, it seems they're testing my ability to express myself in English, and to look a little deeper than "yeah, pretty picture".

Talking about time avaiable, and how I will have less of it next term, and have sent him the link to the online Cookery course.

"Activity 4"

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Jane Williams, Thursday, 10 Oct 2024, 13:03

Now written up in much more detail, and with much diving down internet rabbit-holes.

I'll send it to my tutor, wtih a note that on reflection, I'm not sure how I feel about two of my main references being articles on the OU website. It seems like making the most of someone else having done the work for me.

Also, "references" - I gave up. No idea which things I should cite, and which not, never mind how.

Several "to do" bits from that, linked as "further reading" in each case, and one of them requiring a physical trip to a specialist London library.

ooh! Maybe not!

Digital scans of archives and special collections items can be ordered for personal use. The service is free and aimed at researchers wishing to consult small amounts of material remotely.

Each request will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We aim to produce scans, subject to condition approval and appropriate copyright restrictions, within ten working days.

Ask
! (Or maybe ask the OU library to get it?) - asked OU.

They found me a link to a scanned copy! Individual JPGs, but that's easily fixed.... there, a PDF. A fascinating read, too.

Tutorials

Visible to anyone in the world
Edited by Jane Williams, Monday, 4 Nov 2024, 16:48

So, Wednesday night I had my promised phone call from my tutor. All very constructive. But, what he says about how tutorials will work is nothing like what the talk about tutorials said! No classes, no slides, no video, all 1:1 by phone. Apparently Access courses never have all that.

Action: feedback to presenters of that talk? - done, via student forum

I can find recordings, and a note of who ran it, here https://learn1.open.ac.uk/mod/connecthosted/viewrecordings.php?id=19619

Finish writing "activity 4" and send it to him (optional, but OK)

Which means sorting out how to do references.
