Some new students are already in contact and it's exciting to get to know them before the module starts.
The joy of teaching at the OU is that we get to teach a huge variety of students.
Last year I also had a chance to teach a student on remand. We communicated by phone, and I also visited him in prison. The student worked hard and did extremely well in the end.
I saw this warning sign at our local leisure centre in Eastleigh. I wonder if readers think the English text is correct.

Returning from Cornwall during the spring holiday, I noticed a notice board at a train station.
The message is about 'Unattended Luggage', and the message is translated into 6 languages, including Chinese.
The Chinese translation doesn't make sense, as it's a literal translation.
I have a feeling the Chinese text is machine translated, as it smells like one.
I can't verify if other languages (French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese) in this notice make sense, or if they are correctly translated.
As a good citizen, I informed Great Western Railway, and got a 'thank you and we'll look into it' reply.

For some reason I signed up for the AA100 module - The Arts Past and Present. I really look forward to the challenge.
Now I'll get a feel of being a student again, as well as a teacher with the OU.
I logged in and out yesterday playing different roles - as an AL and a student. Not quite time travelling, but adapting to different roles requires different mindsets.
The new module provides day schools, which include extra sessions. These will be stimulating. The tutorial venue is close to me, so I have no reason not to turn up.
