Ich studiere gern aber ich auch studiere gerne!

Visible to anyone in the world

This one caught me out big time. Can you believe that I actually formulated rules, based on Thema 5: Übung 1.6 Abschnitt 4, on when to use gern and when to use gerne.

Oh my, I missed the "sometimes people use gerne" earlier in the material. My researches showed gern as an Adverb, or is it an Adjective? I realise these are almost forbidden words in L193 evil (I did a search of the material for the word "Adverb" and it occurs only once, in a lonely annex sad ).

One German dictionary says:

gern, gerne lieber, am liebsten; Adverb
(1) „mit Freude und Vergnügen <etwas gern tun, etwas gern haben wollen, etwas gern mögen>“
(2) „sofort und ohne Probleme ≈ ohne Weiteres: Das glaube ich dir gern!
(Langenscheidt-Redaktion, 2009)

Another follows another path:

Turns out that adverbs is better because they don't change. The difference between gern and gerne is simply personal preference. I like that wink.

DAve

gern(e) Adj., lieber, am liebsten – gladly
„Stehst du gern(e) früh auf?“ / Do you like to get up early?
(Langenscheidt, 2006)
